this morning #1724.
this morning, way too many of us were all crammed into the conference room for our monthly kickoff meeting. coffee & bagels & a brief speech. a sickening mist of monday morning body heat smeared the air. the boss quieted everyone down & gave a shout out to those of us who’d reached our february goals. then she pivoted right on to the matter of march. left my team’s achievement dead in the dust. way too abrupt. not sure what i’d expected her to say. in that moment, for the first time, reality set in. last month’s success was just a temporary win. if i want to keep my job, i’m going to have to rely on my team. EVERY MONTH. ad infinitum. largely out of my control. there’s only so much motivation i can provide.
