this morning #1463.
this morning, he’d awoken to the sounds of a thousand sirens. an odd heat hung in the air. there were screams coming from the house next door. his neighbors weren’t at all shy about screaming but the sirens were something new. he rolled out of bed to see what the hubbub was about. as soon as he was upright, his nose opened right up & he could smell smoke. he raced to the window & threw the curtains aside. next door, flames were shooting from the roof. he couldn’t believe his eyes. we acted astonished but reminded him of the reason why we entered his home in the first place: the promise of tales about the family who’d lived in that totaled home. with an “oh right” & an apology, he began.
