this morning, when i got out to my car, i found a handwritten note tucked under the windshield wipers. SORRY. I MISTAKENLY BACKED INTO YOUR CAR. PLEASE CALL ME TO DISCUSS. 305-555-5555. no signature. i walked around to the back of my car. great. cracked bumper. FUUUCK. wait…mistakenly? that’s a weird word to use. unless you’re a jerk, you’re not backing into my car on purpose. that’s how accidents work. by nature, they’re mistakes. i pressed on my bumper to make sure it wasn’t going to fall off on my way to the office. tossed the note onto the passenger seat. decided i’d have to deal with this on my lunch break. in the moment, i just couldn’t muster up the civility to discuss the situation with little miss “mistakenly.”
