this morning #1545.
this morning, i was awoken by a 5am call from my editor. a woman in the next town over had been out on a pre-dawn run through the state forest when she came across a lifeless body sprawled on the trail. face down. hands bound. police & emergency personnel soon arrived on the scene. given the recent hubbub around here lately, the deceased was a known entity. they easily made an ID. the husband. when i arrived on the scene, the entrance was blocked by two cop cars. i pled with the men but they wouldn’t let me through so i asked for the detective. they called him. a half hour later, he exited the woods looking like a man defeated. took me aside & spewed a string of desperate words. all i heard was “murder.”
