this morning #1521.
this morning, i’d felt frantic. now that night’s arrived & we’re walking into our meeting, i’m verging on panic. what if my attorney’s read them all wrong & they’ve lured me here to finish the job? it’s too late to turn back now. he’d insisted that i shake hands with the two men whose mistake led to my home burning down, so i did. imagine that. we sat down across a boardroom table from each other & my attorney began talking. they stopped him almost instantly. the older son looked right at me & gave an odd apology, avoided admitting fault while offering up the world. i didn’t hesitate. told him we’d take it. didn’t wait for my attorney to chime in. got up & gave him a firm handshake, knowing i’d just found my way out.
