this morning, my client & i met up nice & early. he’d already been alone in a car with his thoughts for a few hours today & arrived at my office full of unchecked energy. i implored. “relax. take a seat. we’ve got this. we’re the ones in the driver’s seat here. can i get you a bottle of water? no? ok. here’s the plan of attack for our meeting tonight: once they’re done with their apology, i need you to keep calm. let me do the talking. keep quiet for once. at first, at least. i don’t want emotions to derail the process. let them make an offer. let me negotiate. i’m better at that than you. truth. let me do what i do & i guarantee you, by the time we walk out of there, you’ll be just fine.” my words seemed like enough. he didn’t call my bluff.
